Galley Head Lightkeepers' Houses are perched on dramatic cliffs at about 130 feet above sea level overlooking St George's Channel. The houses, in their elevated setting, make an ideal location for relaxing and getting away from it all. The views from every angle are awe inspiring and breathtaking.
Galley Head lighthouse station is close to the award winning village of Clonakilty. This vibrant market town is a must see for tourists. Guests can enjoy a wide range of activities from dolphin and whale watching, surfing at Inchydoney Blue Flag Beach or a historical walking tour of Clonakilty. The houses are also within easy reach of Cork City and Airport. (40 km)

Can I bring a dog?
No. As Galley Head Lightkeepers’ House 1 and 2 are adjacent to one another, they are not suitable for dogs as not all guests are comfortable around animals.
Is linen supplied?
Yes – all beds are prepared and ready for your arrival.
Is there an open fire?
Yes. You can light the fire in the sitting room.
Do I need a car to get here?
It would be preferable to have a car otherwise it will be difficult to get to shops, etc as the house is situated at the end of a long laneway.
How do I get the keys?
When you complete your booking, you will receive an email giving you information about arranging access on your arrival date.
Can I arrive early?
Only by special arrangement with the bookings office and agreement of the local House Manager. A charge is made if you are requesting a morning arrival, as this means we cannot take a booking for the night before your arrival date.
What is the latest departure time?
10.00am. The House Manager will discuss arrangements for your departure on the day you arrive.
How far to the nearest town?
About 15 mins drive back to Clonakilty.
Is there a caterer who will come in to cook meals?
We do not know of anyone who can go in to cook meals at this property.
Is it suitable for children?
This property is surrounded by a wall but due to its cliff top location, it would be advisable to supervise young children.
Is it suitable for older people?
This property would be suitable for older people as long as they are able to climb the stairs to the first floor.
Does it have facilities for disabled people?
No.
Is it suitable for a wheelchair?
No.
Is there central heating?
There is oil central heating with radiators throughout the house.
Is the cooker electric or gas?
Electric cooker.
Is there a shower?
Yes - there is a shower over bath in the single bathroom.

Do you supply towels and bed linen?
Yes. The beds will be made up on your arrival and you will be provided with a bath towel and guest towel according to the number of beds in the property.
Can I get to the house by public transport?
Yes. You would get a train or bus to Cork and taxi could take you onwards from there to the Lighthouse. However, you would need a car to get to local shops, etc.
Where is the nearest train station?
Cork.
Can I book for just one night?
No.
What is your minimum booking period?
Our minimum booking period is 3 nights midweek and 2 nights for the weekend.
Is there a garden at the house?
Yes. There is a lawned area to the front of the house.

No, but there is a radio, board games, cards and plenty of books.
