Description
Built in 1728 and set on 70 acres of private estate in Co Cork is Ballyvolane House. With 6 bedrooms to sleep 12 people, this is the perfect place to gather as an extended family or group of friends for a special occasion. Make the gathering as relaxed or as formal as you like – as an exclusive private house rental, you’ll have the entire place to yourselves
The large impressive dining room is truly a space to celebrate being together. With a solid mahogany table and an open fireplace this room exudes elegance and conviviality. Dinner at Ballyvolane House is an integral part of the Ballyvolane experience and a ritual not to be missed. Informal and relaxed, the dinner offering each night is a 4-course tasting menu.
Before you dine, gather for Bertha’s Revenge Gin cocktails by the fire. The food is one of the highlights at Ballvyolane House and the menus vary with seasonal, weather and fishing conditions. The ingredients used are mainly organic and much use is made of the walled-garden during the growing season.
After dinner, take the opportunity to chat, play cards, board games or to sing - we can arrange for a pianist to come and play (song sheets provided) if required. We serve breakfast until noon every day too so you can enjoy a well-deserved lie in.
The main drawing room is expansive and offers clusters of seating areas, a Chesterfield couch, welcoming open fire and a TV that has been hidden away to encourage conversation among our guests. Wifi is available throughout the house.
It is important to note that unlike many other properties within our portfolio, Ballyvolane House is rented out on a bed & breakfast basis. Breakfast is available in the dining room any time before 12 noon – full Irish or continental. All other meals and extras are charged for on a consumption basis. Should you wish, the house can be let on a fully-catered basis, so that you can relax and really enjoy your break away. The kitchen is a commercial kitchen and is therefore fully staffed so it is not possible for guests to access this area.
All six bedrooms are located upstairs. Four are fully ensuite and the two family bedrooms share a bathroom between them. Three of the bedrooms are true doubles and three contain zip ‘n link beds so can be set up as king beds or split into two single beds, depending on your requirements. We can also provide cots, highchairs and rollaway beds for children if required. There is a guest toilet downstairs for your comfort.
ACTIVITIES
For the active, there is a hard tennis court, badminton, a 7-aside soccer pitch, croquet, lakes for canoeing and swimming, clay pigeon shooting, jogging routes and magical woodland walks. The gardens at Ballyvolane House are glorious and help with the weeding is always welcomed! There is also table tennis in the barn along with other games to keep younger guests entertained.
For those seeking relaxation, there are sun-loungers and deckchairs in the gardens, a large TV in the drawing room which is perfect for watching Netflix or you could always just curl up by the fire with a good book.
Nearby the beautiful Blackwater valley, with its many gardens and historic sites are well worth visiting. Visit pristine sandy beaches on the East Cork and West Waterford coastline, canoe along local rivers, cast a fly for wild salmon on the river Blackwater, shop at the vibrant local farmers’ markets and much more besides are all easily accessible from Ballyvolane House. Kinsale, Ardmore and Ballycotton are all fun day trips too.
